Jr. Auxiliary
Harriman-Hale Unit 18
American Legion Auxiliary
Wolfeboro, NH

Unit 18 is in the process of reestablishing its Jr. Auxiliary.  Many years ago there was a very active group of Juniors and it is our intent to have it once again in the future.

Children of legion/auxiliary members are eligible from birth to six years of age and are known as Tiny Tot enrollment.

Children reaching age six are promoted to Junior membership until the age of 17.  Upon reaching age 18, the Junior members automatically become active Auxiliary members with full privileges.

Americanism is a major focal point for the Jr. Auxiliary and to that end, one of our members, Wanda Brooks, along with Faye Morgan and Joan Kimball have been working wih teachers in the local schools to incorporate patriotism and American pride and loyalty as part of the curriculum.

SPIRIT OF YOUTH PROGRAM - The Auxiliary encourages early planning for college and helps young women identify career opportunities and job requirements.  Scholarships are available for deserving high school students.

FREEDOMS FOUNDATION - An Americanism workshop, where students learn about history by seeing historical characters, hearing stimulating instructors and lively dialog, as well as touch physical evidence from the past on historic tours.  The Auxiliary assists participants through scholarships.

GIRLS STATE & GIRLS NATION -  High School Juniors (11th grade) apply to attend this prestigious program.  Those selected participate in a mock government where they run for political office, campaign for legislation, meet state representatives and senators and really learn about government in the process.  Some Girls State participants go on to Girls Nation in Washington DC, where they do the same thing on the national level.  They tour historic landmarks, see dignitaries and even meet the President of the United States of America.

VolunTeens - Teens provide voluntary hours of service assisting the Auxiliary with Veterans.  Some of the ill or homebound veterans have no other interaction with young people.  A VolunTeen helps brighten their day and is a very meaningful way to serve our country by helping the veterans who defended it.
